Job Description :
This position is responsible for updating and processing the City's payroll, payroll benefits and specialized data entry work. This position reports to the Payroll Manager. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Updates and processes records such as payroll corrections and deductions, IRS levies, child support income deduction orders and other garnishments.
Reviews, inputs and posts payroll data, troubleshooting errors with timekeeping and other payroll reports. 
Processes regular payrolls.
Electronically transmits various files (i.e. direct deposit, check files, and ICMA contributions).
Performs filing and scanning duties.
Assists Payroll Manager in training of all City payroll clerks, which includes monitoring their payroll reports. 
Research and respond to payroll inquiries from City employees, governmental agencies, banks and the general public using excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to assume job responsibilities in the absence of the Payroll Manager.
Researches payroll records as needed and assists with the annual audit and W-2's.
Required Qualifications :
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: 
Associate's degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred. Should have a minimum of two-years payroll/accounting processing experience, supplemented with courses in bookkeeping, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Strong knowledge of Microsoft computer applications and payroll software required. Knowledge of Kronos software a plus. 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: 
Must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Must be able to prioritize. Must have critical thinking skills. Ability to multi-task while staying organized and adapting as departmental needs change. Ability to perform detailed data entry work accurately with a large volume of payroll information within deadlines.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and promote a team atmosphere with other departments. Confidentiality is required.
