Performs routine to difficult professional and intermediate administrative work in planning, organizing, implementing and supervising comprehensive adult and youth athletic and event based programs on a year round basis; does related work as required. Oversees special projects and special events at all the rental facilities. Resolves conflicts and complaints and handles emergencies. Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

  • Supervises Recreation Programs Specialist, Community Center Specialist, and Community Center staff including select or recommending selection, training, scheduling and evaluating work, counsel, discipline, and terminating or recommending termination.

  • Plans, coordinates and directs a comprehensive sports program for all age groups on a year round basis.  Administers and supervises athletic leagues.

  • Manages various marketing for special events and serves as the main contact with participating organizations, venues and corporate sponsors.

  • Assists the Director with details that include but are not limited to the following; Program budgeting, equipment purchases, departmental and County policies and regulations as well as miscellaneous duties as required.

  • Coordinates the use of athletic fields and gyms at various sites, parks, boat ramps and buildings involved with multiple events throughout the county; in conjunction with other county staff, supervisors, school officials and civic organizations.

  • Solicits and maintains an adequate workforce of staff, officials, casual labor and on call labor. Establishes, develops and maintains sound public relations between; Leagues, Associations, Supervisors, coaches, participants and this Division.

  • Maintains a comprehensive and detailed up to date inventory of all equipment owned and/or used by the Division for athletic and event programs.

  • Conducts continuous evaluations of the events and programs by doing monthly, quarterly, and yearly evaluations and reports; and submitting those reports to the Parks and Recreation Director.

  • Required to develop and maintain a volunteer base to assist the Division in all venues.

  • Requires supervising or leading others by determining work procedures, assigning duties, maintaining harmonious relations, and promoting efficiency.

Required Qualifications :

Education, Training, and Experience:
Requires Bachelor's Degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in leisure services, recreation, marketing or closely related field.  Two years experience  in Tournament/Event planning or specific job related experience comparable to minimum requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Skills:
Requires a valid Florida Driver's License for required travel. Proven understanding of the principles and ideas of recreation and event planning in a public setting. Knowledge of the basic methods and techniques of organizing and scheduling groups into events/tournaments for various athletic, sports and public event activities.  Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Excel, Word, Access and Power Point.  Requires infant, child and adult CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid and Emergency Response certification. Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100C and 700B. Must have strong working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Products.
