GENERAL DESCRIPTION:



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:





Provide assistance to veterans and eligible dependents in seeking benefits from federal and state agencies. Administer and implement Veteran Services activities.
 




  • Consults with and advise clients who seek veteran's benefits from the federal and State agencies

  • Researches and interprets federal state statues, program requirements, medical documents, manuals, regulations and guidelines concerning veteran's benefits.

  • Supervises staff; evaluates performance and provide guideline.

  • Reviews claim packages completed by assistants and directs work load as required.

  • Respond to inquiries from the general public, both in person and over the phone; accepts and processes claims in accordance to established procedures.

  • Interviews clients, collect data, and calculates income benefits.

  • Attends certification/recertification training conferences and maintains accurate knowledge of current federal and state guidelines and regulations concerning veteran benefits.

  • Prepares reports, calendars, agendas, presentations, and files or submits other required data to assist in acquiring benefits and to administer county policy.

  • Maintains contact with VA clinic, hospitals and region offices.

  • Performs outreach to home bound veterans, responds to inquiries, coordinates staff participation in community events, works with state and national veteran organizations. 

  • Participates in speaking engagements to increase awareness of services provided. 

  • Perform related work as require.




Required Qualifications :



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:





Education, Training and Experience:
Must be a veteran (or surviving spouse of any such veteran) and meet the minimum requirements in Title 38, U.S. Code and Florida Statute 292.11 applicable to Florida County Veteran Service Officers. Requires Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business or liberal arts and over six months experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Skills:
Valid Florida Driver License for required travel and Florida Department of Veterans Affairs State Certification required. Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100B and 700A.  Training, Responsibility, Involvement and Preparation of Claims (T.R.I.P.) Training certification, VA HIPAA and RoB Training certificates and ability to pass Department of Veterans Affairs background investigation for Personal Identity Verification card.

 


Business conducts reference checks, background check, drug test and physical examination.

Work Schedule:  Full-time; hours not specified

Salary:  $1,372.39 - $2,113.42 Biweekly
