Job Description :

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Establish and implement the disabilities service plan.

  • Track/monitor activities contained in the disabilities service plan.

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies that promote enrollment of children with disabilities.

  • Arrange for formal evaluation of a child who after the initial screening has been identified as possibly having a disability.

  • Collaborate with staff to meet the special needs of children with disabilities which include education, health, nutrition, social services, and parent involvement.

  • Support staff and parents in individualizing the child development and education approach for children with disabilities.

  • Monitor services provided under the IFSPs and IEPs.

  • Secure contracts with the LEAs.

  • Collaborate with staff and parents to develop Individual Classroom Plans based on the childs IFSPs and IEPs.

  • Creates ICP to interpret IEP/IFSP for teachers and education staff.

  • Communicates monthly with Center Manager and Coaching Staff about the status of children with IEP/IFSP's.

  • Attend staffing meetings as needed/requested.

  • Participate in case management meetings as required.

  • Coordinate and/or conduct training for staff and families on topics related to special needs.

  • Provide education and/or information for families on how to advocate for their child.

  • Coordinate activities and/or strategies to support successful transitions of children with disabilities to and from Head Start/Early Head Start.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:


This position reports to the Health Services Manager.


Required Qualifications :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Bachelors Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field


1-3 yrs related work experience preferred


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of methods to improve a childs emotional stability

  • Knowledge of securing & individualizing needed services for children with disabilities.

  • Ability to build and maintain human relations with staff and parents.

  • Ability to work with the public

  • Ability to perform tasks with little direct supervision

  • Commitment to strengthen families but with ultimate commitment to the well being of the child

  • Knowledge of applicable safety and abuse-reporting procedures

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products at an intermediate to advanced level

  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records and prepare reports

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment


CERTIFICATIONS:



  • Valid drivers license for required travel

  • Business conducts drug screen/background check/reference check/motor vehicle record check

  • By October 2019, must have current First Aid and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training

  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service training annually, July 1- June 30


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:



  • Works in early childhood classrooms and office settings

  • Local travel to multiple sites is required

  • Minimal night, weekend or out-of-town work possible


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:



  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)

  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)

  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
