GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 
The position is broad technical work reviewing permit application packages for building construction, alterations and repairs in the areas of fire, life safety, fire suppression, alarms, and other areas to insure compliance with applicable NFPA codes, the Florida Fire Prevention Code and other federal, state, local ordinances and laws.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Review permit application packages for building construction, alterations and repairs in the areas of fire, life safety, fire suppression, alarms, and other areas to insure compliance with applicable NFPA codes, the Florida Fire Prevention Code and other federal, state, local ordinances and laws.

  • Enters permitting data into computerized database.

  • Assists customers with code compliance via phone and in person.

  • Meets with customers, contractors, architects and engineers in person to explain deficiencies.

  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; reviews new codes and changes to existing codes; maintains an awareness of new methods, materials, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature, maintains professional affiliations, attends seminars, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.

  • Computes permit fees.

  • May conduct building inspections as required.

  • Performs other related duties as required.


Required Qualifications :
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education and at least three years of related construction experience; or completion of five years of related construction or fire safety inspector experience.  Candidates with building inspection licenses preferred.

  • Must have the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite of products.

  • Must possess organizational skills necessary to keep accurate records and files.

  • Requires valid Florida Driver License for required travel

  • Certification as a Fire Safety Inspector I from the Florida Division of State Fire Marshall.

  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100 and 700.

Salary:
$21.12 to $30.51 per hour DOE

Work Schedule: Full Time, The primary work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
