Position Summary 

The medical doctor (consultant) will serve on an as needed basis to provide medical support and direction when indicated to the medical department and organization as a whole, especially in times of crisis or medical need. The medical doctor goal is to ensure all clinical programs are safe to the patients' specific issues, drug of choice, and medical history.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this position successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. 
The responsibilities of a CONSULTANT as Medical Doctor shall include, but not be limited to:


  • Provide medical services, including medication prescription as needed.

  • Respond to client crises and emergencies as needed.

  • Document developments and important events in accordance with company policies for reporting and record keeping.

  • Use Welligent and its components, maintaining accurate and timely documentation.

  • Project a professional image to the public.

  • Physical Examination of identified patients, and review laboratory results with patients.

  • Issuance of patient medication change orders and such verbal orders as may be issued from time to time

  • Availability to staff for emergency management of patient care

  • Training of nursing staff as needed

  • Coordination with Director of Nursing and nursing staff regarding medical services and care via verbal or written orders

  • When possible, assist other PHFL locations with coverage via verbal or written orders

  • Knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications, detoxification protocols and prescribing medications in general and works diligently to support and maintain the corporate values associated with such programs.

  • Keep current on the ASAM criteria.

  • Responsible for assuring that arrangements are made for follow-up services that reflect the findings or risk factors discovered during medical assessments.

  • Ensure that patients are referred to specialists when the medical needs of a client cannot be met by the providers of the addiction treatment center.

  • Extensive substance use medical treatment experience specifically in a residential setting.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.

  • Knowledge of related accreditation and licensure requirements.

  • Ability to work with computers and possess good time management skills.

  • Other duties as reasonably requested by Director of Nursing or Medical Director

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. 


The work environment is that of a substance use treatment milieu which may include:

  • Exposure to patients infected with Hepatitis B, HIV, TB, or other Infectious Diseases

  • Business-related travel


SCHEDULING NEEDS:

  • Weekends and holiday hours may be required.

  • Possible on-call hours may be required.

Required Qualifications :
EDUCATION/ LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school.

  • Licensed physician in the State of Florida, with unrestricted licenses to practice medicine.

  • Minimum 2 years knowledge and expertise to competently provide care in accordance with the applicable standard of practice in a substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment setting.

  • Carry professional liability insurance issued by an insurance company or trust licensed or otherwise qualified to issue coverage in the State of Florida, with minimum coverage limits of not less than One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) per claim and Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000) annual aggregate. Knowledge of addictions, addiction treatment, and co-occurring mental health disorders treatment.

  • Familiarity with Addiction Medicine, CARF, local state authorities and other indicated healthcare standards are necessary.

  • Application of Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement Team philosophy.

  • Board Eligibility is required; Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics or similar specialty is preferred

  • Must have a current DEA number for schedule II-V controlled substances.

  • Employer conducts Drug screen, Reference check and Background check.
