Job Description :

This is a highly responsible administrative position in the that prepares a variety of types of public and internal communication for distribution and presentation. This position develops, implements and coordinates a comprehensive public information, marketing and social media program. The position reports to the Strategic Business Administrator. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Public Communication:


Communicates with officials, administration, personnel, citizens, customers, and the media to disseminate information on behalf of the organization, via the businesses intranet, website, social media and/or other pre-approved platforms. Prepares and distributes press releases for personnel concerning activities, issues, emergency and other sensitive matters, programs, events, projects, and services to keep the public informed. Provide advice, consultation, and assistance to employees and elected officials in media relations. Serves as representative to the public information team assigned to the Emergency Operations Center during times of declared emergencies. Serve as the official spokesperson, representing  to the media in person, by telephone or on camera. Facilitates interview with  officials upon request from the media.

Information Production: 


Oversees the development of multiple platform marketing, promotional, and informational materials for programs and services, internally and externally. Actively monitors existing web pages; identifying aging or irrelevant information; work with departments to keep the pages fresh and informative. Provides leadership on social media administration take appropriate actions or make recommendations to the  Managers' Office as needed.

Marketing/Brand Management: 


Provides leadership for the brand and design management. Proofs all print, audio, video and electronic messaging intended for public consumption. Participates in the development of formal marketing plans for facilities and major programs/projects. Advises on protocol, publicity, marketing, promotions and feasibility.

Elected Official/Staff Support: 


When requested, this position will generate magazine columns, speeches, guest editorials, talking points, scripting and other information pieces for use by officials and the Managers' Office.



Attends Council meetings and workshops. As requested, presents information at public meetings and workshops. Attends conferences, committee and staff meetings to gather information and coordinate plans. Participates in special events and awards activities as directed. Serves on various committees and boards. Represents the on outside committees and programs.

Community Outreach: 


Responsible for creating and implementing a Citizens Academy to educate participants on the services that the business provides and challenges that it faces. Acts as a guest speaker on a variety of topics to civic and stakeholder groups, in local schools; and participating in community outreach programs, as requested.

Attendance & Performance: Attendance at evening meetings and events is required. 


Work Schedule: Full Time, hours not specified. Attendance at evening meetings and events is required. 

Annual Salary: $55,800.00 -  $100,300.00 DOE

Required Qualifications :


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field;

  • Three years of experience of an increasingly responsible nature in local government administration. 

  • Three years of experience in public information required.


Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license for required travel. 


Knowledge of principles and practices of public information; knowledge of sources of information related to challenges facing local government. Must have written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write and produce clear and concise reports, publications, memoranda and letters; develop and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly with media representatives, department personnel, elected officials, and the general public. Ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures; to solve problems and be detail-oriented; and to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
