Job Description :


The OSP Network Technician is responsible for designing and maintaining OSP systems, including Fiber to the X (FTTX) and Passive Optical Network (PON) deployments, including underground cable systems, termination, cable placement, heavy construction/infrastructure, and make ready tasks.

  • Takes and maintains field notes, supports project timelines, performs end to end tests, reviews test results for acceptable loss readings, and provides close out packages complete with pictures, results, and documentation to management

  • Plans, installs, and performs preventive maintenance and emergency repair of passive equipment and fiber-optic connections

  • Applies fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments to support routine planning and outside plant work orders

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Maintains a professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers

  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices

  • Performs all duties in adherence to Company standards

  • May perform on-call work as prescribed to include after-hours (nights and weekends)

  • Prepares maps and reports for internal usage as well as compliance with outside contractors

  • Reads and interpret maps, operates computerized mapping system, and maintains all map updates

  • Supplies required documentation for system maintenance including fiber restoration and outages

  • Processes fiber construction as-builts to include route verification and update required attributes

  • Maintains knowledge of infrastructure design and layout, with the ability to design both distributed tap and centralized splitter architectures

  • Performs fiber-to-the-X(FTTX) and PON design functions and analysis functions

  • Assists with implementation, maintenance, and operation of the GIS system and related components

  • Performs post construction Quality Assurance (QA) of contractor's work to ensure it has met standard telecommunication construction standards, and has met the Scope or Statement of Work requirements

  • Performs fiber optic and Ethernet line testing in relation to newly installed plant or trouble repairs, to include the use of OTDR, Power Meter, CAT 5 & 6 Cable Verifier, and/or other similar test sets or techniques

  • Develops Statement of Work (SOW) packages to include cost estimates, and outside and/or in-building fiber routes

  • Performs pre-construction walk outs to determine most optimal fiber routes for customer and backbone

  • Manages multiple fiber plant construction projects, including county permitting for projects, construction activities, and vendors, as well as materials procurement for local organizations and partners

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to interpret complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations to management and contractors

  • Ability to analyze captured data to perform incident response and identify potential issues to customer networks

  • Experience with packet analysis tools

  • Experience with log correlation tools

  • Ability and desire to advance in a team environment supporting projects and objectives

  • Customer service skills

  • Knowledge of various Help Desk Tracking software programs

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, CAD, and Google Earth software

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English and have good verbal and written communication skills

  • Associate's Degree preferred

  • A valid Florida Driver's License for required travel, with acceptable driving history required in accordance of company policy.
