POSITION TITLE, SERIES AND GRADE: Social Insurance Specialist Claims Representative (GS-105-5-7-9)

Veterans' preference applies to the selection of candidates for Program appointments. To be considered for this position, applicants applying for this position must provide the following:

1. Certificate of Active Duty Discharge - Veterans must furnish form DD214,

2. Certification of disability - Candidates must show eligibility under Schedule A  

Non-competitive hiring authority for Veterans, Schedule A appointees or inter-agency transfer. 



DUTIES: Entry Level / Trainee 

 
Claims Representatives conduct interviews and help claimants establish their entitlement benefits under Social Security programs. Contact is either by face to face interview or by telephone. Claims Representatives obtain, clarify and verify information which is used to analyze claims and make decisions regarding entitlement to benefits.


Required Qualifications :


Minimum required for the Claims Specialist - 4 year degree from an accredited educational institution and or related experience


CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be a U.S. citizens to participate in the Program.

 

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: For positions in the GS-105 series, candidates must demonstrate the ability to deal professionally with the public.

TRAINING: Candidates will be required to complete technical training class followed by one or two year on the job training period. 


Annual Salary: $34,916.00 - $52,905.00

WORK SCHEDULE: Flextime/Alternative Work Schedule - APPOINTMENT: Full Time - Permanent
